Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy
Antibiotics administered in the comfort of your own home
Outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) is a service provided by our mobile medical team. It enables patients requiring intravenous antibiotics to be treated in their own home rather than having to stay in hospital for the treatment. It can be used to treat many infections including cellulitis, bone and joint infections and infective endocarditis.
Patients are assessed by the doctor to confirm that the medical and social circumstances are appropriate in each case. Assuming they are, a programme of antibiotics can then be administered at the patients home by a JDoc365 nurse.
OPAT preserves patients independence and reduces or eliminates the inconvenience of a hospital stay.
